Center for the Performing Arts
The Performing Arts Center for Whittier College contains both performance and instructional spaces. The $8 million complex houses a 500-seat theater, acoustically convertible to accommodate either concert recitals or dramatic performances. The facility also contains a 100-seat experimental theater, rehearsal rooms, instructional spaces, lounge and lobby, and extensive backstage facilities.
The style chosen for the building was Spanish Colonial Revival, both to match several earlier campus buildings of that style, and to form a gateway with the Administration Building which sits across the entrance to the campus. The completed Performing Arts Center, along with the Administration Building, has helped to give strong architectural identity to this small Southern California college.
