Chapman University Housing Filmmaker's Village

Orange, CA

AC Martin completed programming and concept design for the Filmmaker's Village at Chapman University. Significant effort went into the design of this new, three-story, Type V Construction residential village study in order to keep it at a scale that wouldn’t overwhelm the historical facades of the adjacent structures. The main circulation spine runs straight east to west across the site and connects all three student housing buildings.

Biotech Company Office Renovation
(Confidential)

Thousand Oaks, California

This 4,000-SF lobby and Tech Lounge renovation for a private biotech company provided a centrally located technology service center for employees and modernization of an existing lobby space in an executive office building. The project scope included:

- Tech Lounge with tech bar, lounge seating, work table, display case, lockers, storage, and tech vending machine
- Tech work room with back-of-house work stations and storage
- Tech demonstration room for new technology tutorials
- Private meeting room
- Elevator waiting area and cab upgrades, including new finishes and graphics
- Lobby upgrades, including new finishes, seating areas and graphics
- Toilet room upgrades

The Tech Lounge was designed to be a welcoming space by opening it up to the existing two-story lobby space. The white solid-surface entry portal that extends into the lobby contrasts with the surrounding darker wood wall paneling, making it easily identifiable to new employees. The new terrazzo flooring that runs throughout the lobby also extends into the Tech Lounge, creating a stronger connection between the two spaces. As a result, the lobby serves a dual function as both building circulation and Tech Lounge waiting area.

Student Housing Phase III, California State University, Northridge

Northridge, CA

Based on the success of Phase I and II student housing, CSUN hired AC Martin for Phase 3, including 200 beds and a major renovation of the main outdoor dining courtyard for campus housing residents. The project will also include a large study lounge, classroom, two multi-purpose rooms for programmed events, a large eat-in communal kitchen, a mail/package room for all on-campus students, and the Housing Facilities offices. Phases I and II are a 4-minute walk from Phase III. Phase III is directly adjacent to CSUN’s 1990’s dining hall. Our project will upgrade and renovate the dining courtyard and connect it to the Phase III student housing courtyard. This area will be the new social HUB for freshmen with a large, shaded trellis enclosing the two courtyards and creating student life event spaces. The communal kitchen was doubled in size allowing for larger student groups to cook together. Phase III also has the package/mail room for all on-campus housing to draw students to this new social HUB. Phase III is targeting completion in late summer 2025.
